Dr Signe Ravn is a Senior Lecturer in Sociology in the School of Social and Political Sciences at the University of Melbourne. Signe’s research centres on the sociology of youth, with a particular focus on risk, gender and processes of marginalisation as young people move towards adulthood. She is a qualitative researcher and has extensive experience with innovative and creative research methods. Before moving to Australia, she lived and worked in Denmark, where her research mainly focused on marginalisation in relation to drug use and other ‘risky’ practices. Her current research includes projects on young men and ‘sexting’; the everyday lives and imagined futures of young women who have left school before finishing Year 12 (Girls Growing Up); and family representations on Instagram.
